Pune: A 28-year-old woman from Nanded City, Pune, has become the latest victim of cyber fraud after being deceived by scammers posing as online job providers. The fraudsters lured her into transferring ₹6 lakh with the false promise of high returns for completing online tasks under a "work from home" scheme.
According to police reports, the victim, a resident of Sarang Society, filed a complaint at the Nanded City Police Station, leading to the registration of a case against the unknown cyber fraudsters.
The incident occurred when the fraudsters contacted the woman on November 27 via mobile, offering her an opportunity to earn money by completing simple online tasks. They assured her that the work was legitimate and that she would receive lucrative returns for her participation.
To gain her trust, the criminals initially deposited a small amount into her bank account, making the scheme appear credible. Believing the job to be genuine, the woman subsequently transferred ₹6 lakh to the fraudsters' bank accounts in multiple transactions.
However, after receiving no returns and realizing that further communication from the fraudsters had stopped, the woman understood she had been deceived. She then approached the Nanded City Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.
The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter. Officials have warned citizens to be cautious of such fraudulent schemes that promise high returns for minimal effort and to verify the authenticity of any online job offers before making financial commitments.
