Pune: Incomplete construction of six water tanks by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has left residents of Hadapsar grappling with severe water shortages. Despite the tanks being part of the PMC's initiative to enhance water supply in the area, residents of Akashwani, Sasanenagar, Kale Boratenagar, and Satavwadi continue to receive water for just one hour daily.

Representatives from the Pune City District Congress Committee OBC Cell, including Congress State Vice President Mohan Joshi and City President Prashant Surase, met Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale to discuss the issue. They demanded the immediate completion of the projects and warned of protests if no action is taken.

Incomplete Projects and Longstanding Issues

The PMC built six water tanks in Hadapsar with capacities ranging from 35 lakh liters to 45 lakh liters at locations such as Tukainagar, Hadapsar Bus Depot, Bhujbal Scheme, Akashwani, and Sadhna Vidyalaya. While four of these tanks have been constructed, water supply remains unavailable due to the lack of pipeline connections.

Surase highlighted the persistent water crisis in the area, stating, “Residents have been facing water shortages for years due to the negligence of the Water Supply Department. The PMC must urgently address this issue to ensure residents receive a reliable water supply.”

Some parts of Hadapsar, such as Gaothan and Gadital, have been under PMC jurisdiction for 60 years, while others, including Satavwadi and Kale Boratenagar, joined in 1997. Despite this, residents still rely on water tankers, underscoring the pressing need for a permanent solution.

Residents Demand Action

Residents have insisted that water meters should only be installed after the water supply issue is resolved. With the situation growing dire, the Congress delegation has urged the PMC to prioritize the completion of these projects to alleviate the water crisis in Hadapsar.
