Pune: In a major relief to commuters, the Pune City Traffic Police Department has announced the resumption of two-way traffic on Ganeshkhind Road, specifically from Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk to India Meteorological Department (IMD / Simla Office) Chowk, starting Thursday, March 20. The decision was taken to address the traffic congestion caused by an earlier diversion due to ongoing bridge construction work by Metro.
Background: Traffic Diversion and Its Impact
Since November 26, 2024, traffic had been rerouted via ABIL Corner – Symphony Circle – N.T. Wadi to prevent congestion and ensure road safety. However, this diversion significantly increased travel distance and time for daily commuters.
Now, with the new directive, two-way traffic has been reinstated between Acharya Anand Rishiji Maharaj Chowk (near Pune University) and Simla Office Chowk.
Traffic Police Orders and Expected Impact
Pune’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Amol Zende, issued the official order on Thursday, allowing normal traffic flow to resume in both directions.
This decision is expected to:
Reduce congestion on alternative routes
Shorten travel time for commuters
Improve traffic movement in the affected areas
With two-way traffic back in place, commuters can now expect a smoother and faster journey on Ganeshkhind Road.
