Pune: A shocking incident unfolded in the Magarpatta area of Hadapsar on Saturday (January 11) evening, where an intoxicated man assaulted a traffic police officer on duty. The altercation was captured on video and later went viral on social media platforms. The Hadapsar police detained the accused late at night and initiated legal proceedings against him.

The incident occurred at Raskar Chowk, where officers from the Hadapsar Traffic Division were managing traffic and taking action against vehicles violating traffic rules by traveling in the wrong direction.

During this time, the accused, under the influence of alcohol, was seen attempting to hit a bystander with a stone. A traffic police officer intervened to stop the man, which led to the accused assaulting the officer in a fit of rage.

The video of the incident quickly spread on social media, drawing widespread attention. Upon being informed, senior officials from the Hadapsar Traffic Division and the local police reached the scene and took the accused into custody. He was brought to the Hadapsar Police Station, where a case was being registered against him late into the night.

Police sources confirmed that appropriate charges are being filed against the accused, emphasizing the need to ensure the safety of officers performing their duties.

Earlier in October 2024, a young college student was arrested after allegedly assaulting a traffic police officer who stopped him for riding his motorcycle at high speed and honking loudly. The accused, identified as 22-year-old Prathamesh Shamsundar Kawade, a hotel management student, was charged with obstruction of government work and assault on a public servant.
