A violent early morning incident at a construction site in Mira Road near Mumbai left two security guards injured after they were allegedly attacked with a knife by a man in his early 30s. Police have arrested the accused within hours of the incident.
The confrontation reportedly took place around 4 am on Monday at an under-construction project in the Nayanagar area of Mira Bhayander. The accused, identified as Zaib Zubair Ansari, is alleged to have attacked the two guards on duty, Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen.
According to officials, the situation escalated quickly, resulting in Mishra suffering serious injuries, while Sen sustained relatively minor wounds. Both men were immediately taken for medical attention, and Sen later approached the Nayanagar police station to file a complaint.
Once alerted, police teams examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area, which helped them trace and detain the suspect within a short time. Ansari was subsequently booked on charges related to attempted murder.
The case soon drew additional attention, with the Thane Anti-Terrorism Squad initially joining local police in questioning the accused. Later, the investigation was handed over to the Mumbai ATS as officials began looking into all possible angles of the attack.
Authorities have also registered charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions dealing with attempt to murder and alleged acts that could incite communal disharmony. However, police officials have stated that no conclusive motive has been established so far.
Preliminary inputs suggest that an exchange took place between the accused and one of the guards before the violence broke out, though investigators have not confirmed details of what triggered the confrontation.
Officials from the Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar police have urged residents not to spread unverified claims as the probe continues and multiple agencies work to determine the exact circumstances leading to the attack.
