Pune: Maharashtra’s first cluster school in Panshet has been hailed as a model for the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly for its holistic approach to student development in remote and hilly regions. Newly appointed Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh emphasized this during his visit to the school on Saturday (January 18) to assess educational progress in the region.
The visit marked Singh’s first review tour after assuming office. Accompanied by outgoing Education Commissioner Suraj Mandhare, Singh engaged with teachers, parents, and students to understand the challenges faced in rural education.
During his visit, Singh reviewed facilities at secondary schools in Khanapur, Varasgaon, and Deshmukhwadi, alongside Panshet School. The commissioner guided students on the importance of discipline, punctuality, and qualities necessary to excel in life. He also instructed teachers and students to strictly adhere to school rules and emphasized the need for comprehensive efforts to improve educational standards in cluster schools.
Engagement with Students
Commissioner Singh actively interacted with students during Panshet School’s "Joyful Saturday" activities. These included English dramatizations, poetry recitations, math games, and cultural performances. Singh spent over 40 minutes engaging students with questions on mathematics, general knowledge, and their career aspirations, offering motivation and guidance.
Cluster School Benefits
Singh highlighted the social and academic advantages of cluster schools to parents of students from smaller schools in Varasgaon and Deshmukhwadi. He explained how larger schools like Panshet provide better facilities, holistic development opportunities, and enhanced English learning. Inspired by this, parents assured Singh of their willingness to enroll their children in cluster schools.
Recognition for Panshet School
The commissioner lauded the rooftop garden initiative at Panshet School and commended efforts by the school management, teachers, and parents. He provided detailed instructions to improve quality and standards at the cluster school.
Guidance to Local Representatives
Singh emphasized the importance of cluster schools in fostering social, academic, and athletic development. He shared his personal journey of overcoming challenges to inspire students and urged local representatives to advocate for cluster school systems to ensure the overall development of students in remote areas.
During the visit, Singh addressed the importance of respectful community interactions by bowing to greet women sarpanches, demonstrating humility and setting an example of respect for women.
Rajkumar Bamne, Group Education Officer, Rajgad, noted, "The commissioner’s visit was inspirational. Transitioning students from single-digit strength schools to cluster schools like Panshet will undoubtedly foster holistic development."
