Pune: Kalewadi Police arrested a woman for stealing jewelry worth ₹6.29 lakh from a neighbor's house. The accused, identified as Sonali Nilesh Ohol (34), a resident of Nakhatevasti in Rahatni, entered the victim’s house through an open door while they were away.

According to the police, the theft occurred on December 16 when Akash Santosh Achari (30) left his house to take his ailing child to a doctor. In the hurry, Achari forgot to close the door. Seizing the opportunity, Ohol entered the house and stole gold and silver jewelry.

Upon being detained and questioned, Ohol admitted to the theft. The police recovered stolen items from her residence, including a 2.75-tola gold necklace, a 3.75-tola mangalsutra with a pendant, a 1-tola gold choker, a half-tola gold bangle, 1.5-gram gold earrings, two 5.5-gram gold chains, and several silver ornaments, including 17 pairs of children’s bangles, anklets, and toe rings. The recovered jewelry amounted to a total weight of 8.7 tolas and was valued at ₹6.29 lakh.

The successful operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner Vishal Gaikwad, and Assistant Commissioner Sunil Kurade.
