Pimpri: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is set to launch the second phase of its anti-encroachment drive to ease traffic congestion in Pune and its surrounding areas. The operation, scheduled between March 17 and March 30, will target unauthorized structures along key highways and major roads.

This drive is being conducted in coordination with multiple government agencies, including:

  • Pune City Police

  • Pimpri-Chinchwad City Police

  • Pune Rural Police

  • Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)

  • Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)

  • National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)

  • Public Works Department (PWD)

  • Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC)

  • Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC)

  • Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB)

Phase One: 2,502 Illegal Structures Removed

In the first phase of the operation, conducted until March 13, authorities cleared 2,502 unauthorized structures along major routes:

  • Pune-Nashik Highway (Chimbali to Sandbhorwadi, approx. 29 km): 898 illegal structures removed.

  • Pune-Solapur Road (approx. 33 km): 1,047 unauthorized constructions demolished.

  • Chandni Chowk to Paud Road (approx. 21 km): 557 structures cleared.

Phase Two: Targeting Key Routes

As part of the second phase (March 17-30), encroachment removal will continue on the following roads:

  • Pune-Satara Road (Navale Bridge to Sarole)

  • Sus Road

  • Hadapsar (Shewalwadi) to Dive Ghat

  • Navlakh Umbre to Chakan

  • Hinjewadi to Maan

  • Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur Road

PMRDA Urges Encroachers to Voluntarily Remove Illegal Structures

With a strict deadline in place, PMRDA has called upon encroachers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits to voluntarily remove their unauthorized constructions. Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase emphasized the importance of securing prior approvals for any new construction to avoid legal action.
