Girish More, a resident of Yerawada, was admitted to Aundh District Hospital on January 3 with critically low blood sugar levels (31 mg/dL). Despite showing signs of severe weakness and swelling in his leg, the attending physician, Dr. Amol Bondre, allegedly discharged him on January 10.

A video recording made by More’s family members reportedly shows the doctor insisting on discharge, despite their concerns about his deteriorating health. Tragically, More passed away at home on January 12.

The incident came to light after a news report in ‘Sakal’ on March 19, prompting health officials to take action. Dr. Srinivas Kolod, Medical Superintendent of Yerawada Regional Mental Hospital, and Dr. Urmila Shinde, Medical Superintendent of Alandi Rural Hospital, have been assigned to investigate the case.

Key Areas of Investigation

The committee has been directed to examine:

  • Was the patient discharged prematurely, and if so, why?

  • Did the hospital follow proper medical procedures before issuing the discharge?

  • If More was fit for discharge, why did he succumb just two days later?

  • Did doctors ignore the concerns of the patient and his family regarding his health?

  • Is there a systemic issue of patients being discharged before full recovery?
