Pune district received 290 mm rainfall, slightly below the normal 310 mm.
Despite a dry start to the month across Maharashtra, good rainfall in the last two weeks helped the state and country stay close to average seasonal figures.
Pune, 1st August 2025: Pune city experienced below average rainfall in July 2025, recording just 130 mm of rain according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). This is significantly lower than the city's normal July average of 194.1 mm and far below the 396 mm recorded in July last year.
The rainfall pattern across Pune district was slightly better, with 290 mm received during the month compared to the normal of 310 mm. While this represents a small shortfall, it reflects a wider trend seen across several parts of Maharashtra where most districts reported normal rainfall, but some faced deficits.
The state as a whole recorded 327.9 mm of rainfall in July, which is close to the normal average of 324.4 mm. The IMD highlighted that although a majority of days in July remained dry, rainfall in the second half of the month helped improve the overall situation.
Nationally, India received 474.3 mm of rainfall till July 31, slightly above the seasonal normal of 445.8 mm, suggesting that the monsoon remains on track despite regional variations.
The low rainfall in Pune city has raised concerns among local authorities and residents, especially considering the sharp contrast with last year’s figures. However, the improvement in rainfall during the latter half of July has offered some relief.
