Pune: The CCTV surveillance system in Pune will remain under the control of the police, while the maintenance and repair of these cameras have been assigned to a private agency, Allied Digital Services Limited. This update was provided by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a written response during the state assembly session.
The city currently operates a network of 6,492 CCTV cameras, which includes 5,151 cameras installed across Pune and 1,341 cameras under Pune City Police jurisdiction. The Pune Police Control Room, along with local police stations and outposts, has direct access to the surveillance feeds.
Installation and Maintenance Details
The issue was raised in the state legislative assembly by MLA Siddharth Shirole, following which CM Fadnavis detailed the implementation and maintenance plans.
In 2015, the Pune City Police Commissionerate installed 1,341 CCTV cameras under Phase 1 of the surveillance project.
Phase 2, which includes an additional 2,886 cameras, has been approved, and installation work is currently underway.
The maintenance and repair work of cameras under Phase 2 has been contracted to Allied Digital Services Limited for a six-year period.
CM Fadnavis further clarified that Pune Police does not have a dedicated network for repairing cameras in case of technical failures. Instead, the internet connectivity for the surveillance system is provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
Additional CCTV Installations in Pune
Apart from the cameras installed by Pune Police, other agencies have also contributed to expanding the city’s surveillance network:
Pune Metro has installed 2,255 CCTV cameras for security monitoring.
Pune Smart City project has deployed 430 additional cameras across key locations.
