Pune, 6th September 2025: As the city prepares to bid farewell to Lord Ganesha this weekend, the weather may add its own touch to the celebrations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy skies with light rain in Pune and its surrounding areas on Saturday, September 6.
The rainfall is linked to a low-pressure system that has developed over central Madhya Pradesh and adjoining eastern Rajasthan. This weather pattern has already brought rain to Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra and is expected to continue influencing the state over the weekend.
According to the IMD, Konkan and Central Maharashtra are likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places on Saturday and Sunday. A yellow alert has been issued for these regions, including the Pune ghat section, where heavy downpours could occur. Thunderstorms with lightning are also possible in parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Palghar, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Nashik’s ghat areas, where very heavy rain is expected at some locations. Along the Konkan coast, widespread rain is likely to continue for the next three days.
With immersion processions drawing huge crowds, the forecast means Pune may witness a rainy farewell to Ganesh idols, while parts of north Maharashtra brace for heavier showers.
