Pune: The DNA test report of the accused in the Swargate MSRTC bus depot sexual assault case is expected soon, and the chargesheet will be filed within 15 days, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced on Tuesday (March 4).
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of February 25, involved the sexual assault of a young woman inside a MSRTC bus at Swargate ST bus stand. A case was registered against Dattatray Ramdas Gade (31, resident of Gunat, Shirur Taluka) at the Swargate Police Station.
In a significant development, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar transferred the investigation to the Crime Branch on March 4. The probe is now being led by Additional Commissioner of Crime Branch, Shailesh Balkawade, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nikhil Pingale.
Investigation Progress and Key Evidence
Statements recorded: The victim, her family, and her friend have given their statements. Additionally, the cab driver who dropped the woman at Swargate and the MSRTC bus conductor have also been questioned.
Forensic & medical reports included: The chargesheet will consist of CCTV footage, the Sassoon Hospital medical report, and forensic examination results from the bus.
No compromise in investigation: Authorities have assured that the case will be presented with strong forensic evidence to ensure justice for the victim.
Missing Mobile Phone of the Accused
The accused’s mobile phone remains untraceable. Police suspect that Gade lost it in a farm near Gunat village (Shirur Taluka). Investigators believe the phone may contain crucial evidence, and search operations are underway to recover it.
