Pune, 22nd September 2026: The BJP’s senior leadership is set to hold a two-day workshop for its corporators from the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations amid concerns over their functioning, coordination and handling of civic issues. The workshop is scheduled for October 6 and 7 at the Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini in Uttan, Bhayandar.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan are expected to attend the programme and interact with the elected representatives.
According to BJP sources cited in the report, disputes among office-bearers and a lack of coordination have affected the functioning of the two civic bodies. Disagreements over tender conditions have reportedly resulted in cancellation of civic works on several occasions.
The party leadership is also concerned about decisions and resolutions passed in standing committee and other subject committee meetings. Some corporators and office-bearers have reportedly insisted on implementing decisions despite objections over their procedure or content.
Senior BJP leaders are said to be dissatisfied that civic work has not progressed as expected despite the appointment of senior administrative officials. A meeting of Pune corporators held by Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol had earlier focused on improving their functioning, but party sources said there has been limited change.
The October workshop is being organised as a capacity-building programme for corporators from both municipal corporations. Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini conducts training programmes for elected representatives covering municipal governance, legislative procedures, financial administration, public participation and communication.
According to the report, the BJP leadership is expected to review the work carried out by its representatives so far and discuss areas where improvements are required. The objective is to improve coordination and ensure that elected representatives understand their responsibilities in municipal governance.
Fadnavis had earlier cautioned BJP’s newly elected corporators about their responsibilities after the civic elections.
He had said that the mandate given by Pune’s voters was not meant to be used to display power, but to take responsibility. He also stressed that municipal corporations should not be treated as businesses or as a means of earning commissions, and warned that misconduct would not be tolerated.
Fadnavis had also reminded the corporators that their individual conduct affects the image of the BJP. The upcoming workshop is therefore expected to focus on governance, discipline, coordination and the responsibilities of elected representatives.
