Pune, 22nd September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) plan to complete the 50-metre Katraj–Kondhwa road by March 2027 could face delays as land acquisition for 10 properties required for the project is still pending. The land acquisition proposal has been sent to the government, but the measurement of the properties has not yet been completed.
Officials said the measurement, preparation of a new award and other administrative procedures could take another three to four months. The civic body can take possession of the properties only after these procedures are completed.
Around 60% of the service road work has been completed. The PMC road department has planned to finish most of the remaining work within a month, except at locations where properties at Sundarban and Maulinagar Chowk are creating obstacles.
Completion of the service road is expected to reduce traffic pressure on the main Katraj–Kondhwa road and improve movement for local residents. However, the remaining property-related issues are also affecting the progress of the main road work.
Properties in the Sundarban area and four structures at Maulinagar Chowk are yet to be cleared. These properties are required for the proposed grade separator and bridge works.
The administration has not yet provided a clear timeline for completing the acquisition, taking possession of the properties and handing over the sites for construction.
Chief Land Acquisition Officer Shweta Darunkar said the proposal has been received from the District Collector’s Office and correspondence is currently underway.
"The District Collector’s Office has sent the proposal and correspondence is in progress. We have also informed them that the matter is urgent. Once the notices are issued and the measurement is completed, we will take possession of the properties immediately," Darunkar said.
Local resident and advocate Prabhakar Todkar said the pending land acquisition raises questions over the PMC’s March 2027 completion target.
"The administration has assured that the road will be completed by March 2027. However, if the land acquisition process is still pending, it is unclear how the deadline will be met. The administration should give priority to the acquisition process and announce a clear timeline," Todkar said.
With land acquisition still pending at key locations, the pace of the Katraj–Kondhwa road project will depend on the completion of measurement, acquisition and site clearance. The progress of the proposed grade separator and bridge will also remain linked to these processes.
