Pune, 31 January 2026: Several parts of Pune, including central peth areas, Senapati Bapat Road, Sinhagad Road and Dhayari, faced severe inconvenience due to low-pressure and inadequate water supply.
In many localities, water did not resume even after Friday evening (January 30), leaving residents struggling to manage daily needs.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had shut down water supply on Thursday (January 29) for electrical and civil maintenance work at key water centres. The civic body had informed citizens that water supply would resume late on Friday morning at low pressure. However, even by Friday afternoon, supply had not stabilised.
Areas such as Guruwar Peth, Ravivar Peth, Shanivar Peth, Shukrawar Peth and Budhwar Peth received water at extremely low pressure. While reduced pressure is common a day after a planned shutdown, residents said this time the supply was significantly worse than usual, causing widespread disruption.
Water supply along both sides of Senapati Bapat Road remained erratic throughout the day. A major pipeline had burst in the area on Thursday, resulting in large quantities of water being wasted. Delayed repairs by the water supply department worsened the situation and led to acute scarcity on Friday.
Similarly, residents in Hingne, Suncity, Anandnagar, Manikbaug, Dhayari and Vadgaon along Sinhagad Road, which fall under the Vadgaon water centre, reported receiving very limited water.
The situation is particularly serious in Dhayari’s DSK Vishwa area, which depends on water drawn from wells in Nanded village. Since the announcement of the recent municipal election results, the area has been facing consistent water shortage.
Around 12 housing societies are receiving less water than required, forcing residents to depend heavily on private tankers. For the past three days, supply has stopped completely.
Residents have questioned the civic administration’s claims of smooth water management, asking where the water is being diverted if supply is supposedly adequate.
Manoj Rangwal, chairman of Meghmalhar Society in DSK Vishwa, said the area has been facing reduced water supply for the last 15 days. With around 900 flats in the society, residents are forced to arrange 50 to 60 water tankers daily, spending lakhs of rupees.
He said the municipal corporation must urgently improve water supply to the area.
