The elections will be held across 41 wards, for which the draft voter list was recently published. Initially, the deadline to file objections was 27 November, but daily complaints highlighted significant flaws in the list.

Many voters reported that their names appeared twice, while others found their names placed not only in the wrong ward but in entirely different Assembly or Lok Sabha constituencies. These discrepancies led the Election Commission to instruct the PMC to ensure a completely error-free voter list. The Commission’s Secretary, Suresh Kankani, issued the official extension order.

Following rising concerns, PMC officials have begun independently verifying entries and deleting incorrect or duplicated names. Divte noted that complaints are being taken seriously and that officials are also conducting on-ground checks in some areas. He said the administration is committed to preparing an accurate voter list.

Earlier in the day, former minister and BJP leader Murlidhar Mohol also commented on the issue. He said that more than three lakh duplicate voters are suspected in the draft list, and several political representatives have already approached the Election Commission with their objections.

He added that while raising complaints is necessary, turning the issue into political controversy is not helpful. Mohol pointed out that such problems, duplicate names, wrong addresses, and names of deceased voters, have existed for many years and need thorough correction.
