Pune, 17th July 2026: City is set to witness a major transport infrastructure upgrade with the construction of a 36.5-km elevated corridor aimed at improving Metro connectivity and easing chronic traffic congestion on Solapur Road.
The project will be executed in two phases by Maha Metro and the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC).
The first phase includes a 5-km elevated Metro corridor and flyover between Bhairobanala and Hadapsar (Akashvani). The second phase involves a 31.5-km six-lane elevated road from Hadapsar to Yavat along the Pune–Solapur National Highway.
As part of the Metro expansion from Swargate to Hadapsar, the existing Magarpatta flyover will be demolished because it obstructs the proposed Metro alignment. A new double-decker flyover will be constructed at the location, allowing both Metro services and road traffic to operate efficiently.
The Metro-linked flyover project is expected to cost around ₹500 crore.
Construction of the Metro-related flyover is expected to begin in January 2027 after detailed planning with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune Traffic Police. Authorities are currently preparing a traffic management plan to minimise disruption once the existing Magarpatta flyover is demolished.
The Swargate–Hadapsar Metro line will run on an elevated structure, generally around 23 metres above ground level.
The existing Magarpatta flyover will be demolished to make way for the Metro project, and a new flyover will be constructed in its place. Work is expected to begin in the next six to seven months after the necessary preparations are completed
Atul Gadgil, Project Director, Maha Metro, Pune.
Separately, the Maharashtra government has approved a 31.5-km six-lane elevated road between Hadapsar and Yavat to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety on the busy Pune–Solapur National Highway.
The project will be implemented by MSIDC at an estimated cost of ₹5,262 crore. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to perform the foundation stone-laying ceremony on July 18. Construction is expected to begin next year and may take four to five years to complete.
