Pune, 17th July 2026: In a major step towards easing traffic congestion in Shivajinagar, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee has approved a proposal to construct a ₹73.52 crore flyover between Sakhar Sankul and the Old Pune-Mumbai Road. The proposal will now be sent to the General Body for final approval.

Once approved, the project is expected to be completed within 18 months, excluding the monsoon period.

The flyover has been planned to address heavy traffic on the existing Wakdewadi underpass, which serves commuters travelling from Sakhar Sankul towards the Old Pune-Mumbai Road. The underpass frequently witnesses severe congestion during peak hours due to its limited capacity.

The project was proposed after repeated demands from local residents, elected representatives and the area's MLA for a long-term solution to the growing traffic problem.

Project Cost and Scope

Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the total project cost has been estimated at ₹73.52 crore, including civil construction, utility shifting, statutory charges and other related expenses.

Project Planning and Funding

PMC appointed Pritam Enterprises as the project consultant in August 2025. After conducting topographical, geotechnical and traffic studies, the consultant prepared the flyover design and submitted the detailed project report.

The technical estimate received approval from the civic body's scrutiny committee, followed by administrative clearance from the Municipal Commissioner to begin the tender process.
