Pune Police have clarified that no 14-day curfew is being imposed in the city, dismissing viral social media claims about restrictions beginning May 26, 2026. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the confusion stemmed from a routine regulatory order issued under Section 37 of the Maharashtra Police Act ahead of Bakri Eid on May 27.

Amid social media rumours of a 14-day curfew in Pune from May 26, city police have clarified that no curfew has been imposed. The clarification came after several online posts falsely claimed restrictions on public movement and gatherings across the city.

What’s the order about?

Pune Police have issued a 14-day preventive order across the city from May 26 to June 8 as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order during the upcoming festive period. The restrictions have been imposed under the Maharashtra Police Act.

During this period, public gatherings including rallies, protests, demonstrations and processions will be regulated or restricted in certain areas. Police said the move is aimed at preventing any disruption and ensuring public safety. Authorities have also warned that action may be taken against those found violating the order.

Are Banks in Pune Shut for 14 Days?

Officials have clarified that banks will operate as usual, and any holidays will be based solely on the Reserve Bank of India’s official holiday schedule. There is no bank closure in Pune due to the curfew. Banks shut only on days that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) designates as holidays in its official calendar.

When Are Banks Closed?

Bank holidays in India are decided by the Reserve Bank of India through a state-wise monthly holiday calendar. Customers are advised to check the RBI list before visiting a branch.

As per RBI rules, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, while the first, third and fifth Saturdays are regular working days unless notified otherwise.
