Pune, 8th May 2026: As schools to reopen for the 2026-27 academic year in June, the Pune Zilla Parishad has released a combined list of unauthorized schools operating in Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural parts of the district.
According to the district administration, 12 schools in the Pune Municipal Corporation limits and nine schools in Pimpri-Chinchwad have been found operating without proper authorization. In rural Pune, 24 schools have been declared unauthorized.
Officials revealed that 13 rural schools do not have government approval at all. Another 11 schools, though originally approved, are allegedly operating from locations different from those sanctioned by the authorities.
The administration said the action was taken after it noticed that some schools were advertising admissions despite lacking official recognition. Based on reports submitted by education officers from Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and rural education departments, the district authorities prepared and released the consolidated list.
In Pune city, three schools have only received preliminary intent letters but are yet to receive final government approval. Similarly, in Pimpri-Chinchwad, one school has received an intent letter but has not obtained final recognition. Authorities stated that a police case has already been registered as per government rules.
Pune Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil said responsibility would be fixed on local officers if unauthorized schools continue functioning in their respective areas.
