
Pune, 7th June 2025: Pune Municipal Corporation has not yet received any instructions from the state government or the State Election Commission regarding the elections. But the administration has already started preparing for the elections.
The number of employees, voting machines, and polling stations is likely to increase by one and a half times in the municipal elections compared to the assembly elections. Therefore, the first meeting was held in the municipal corporation today to coordinate things like finding new places, providing necessary materials for it, etc.
In the recent verdict of the Supreme Court, the state government has been ordered to hold elections to local bodies in the state within four months. But it is not possible to hold elections to all municipal corporations, Zilla Parishads, Nagar Parishads, and Panchayat Samiti in one phase. Wards will have to be newly formed in many places.
Therefore, the elections are likely to be delayed. There is talk that the Pune Municipal Corporation elections will be held after Diwali.
The municipal corporation is likely to receive orders regarding the ward structure in the next few days. After that, the administrative work of the elections will begin. Since the system for this has to be set up, Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divte held a preliminary meeting yesterday(6th). Deputy Commissioner of Election Branch Prasad Katkar and Deputy Commissioner of the Circle were present on this occasion.
Speaking to reporters, Additional Commissioner Omprakash Divate said, orders have not yet been received from the government and the commission regarding the elections, but a meeting was held today for preliminary preparations.
The number of polling stations will be more compared to the assembly elections. There is one polling station for one thousand to twelve hundred voters for the assembly elections, but there will be one center for eight hundred to eight and a half hundred voters for the municipal elections. The number of candidates is more. Therefore, one and a half times more systems will be required.
New polling stations will also have to be set up in the 23 villages included in the municipal corporation. For this, places should be searched for now, the places for the offices of the election officers should be surveyed, and the work that needs to be done for the facilities there should be reviewed and work should be done.
Try to increase the voting percentage. Divate has also given orders to ensure that the names of important people are not omitted while preparing the voter lists.
