Pune, 25th August 2026: Residents, IT employees, local farmers and Resident Welfare Associations from the Hinjewadi-Maan-Marunji area are set to launch a peaceful protest demanding better basic infrastructure and faster government action.
The area has seen rapid urbanisation and a sharp rise in the IT industry and population over the past few years. However, residents say roads, traffic management, water supply, civic amenities and coordination between government agencies have not expanded at the same pace.
Despite repeated representations to the government and concerned departments, residents claim that several issues remain unresolved. The protest will bring together local residents, IT workers, farmers, RWAs and other organisations.
The protesters have put forward nine major demands:
Land acquisition should begin to compensate local farmers and develop required roads.
Pune Metro Line 3 between Maan and Shivajinagar should be started at the earliest.
A meeting chaired by the Chief Minister should be held in Hinjewadi within seven days.
A final decision and government process for establishing a separate local self-government body or municipal corporation for the area should be completed within 180 days.
A monthly review meeting should be held under the chairmanship of the District Collector.
Permanent solutions should be implemented to address traffic congestion at the Wakad flyover and major underpasses.
A sustainable source of at least two TMC of drinking water should be developed from the Mulshi Dam.
The strength of traffic police personnel in the area should be doubled.
A quarterly review meeting should be held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.
Residents argue that Hinjewadi's rapid growth as an IT hub has created significant pressure on existing infrastructure. They want authorities to take coordinated and time-bound measures instead of addressing individual problems temporarily.
The proposed protest is being planned as a democratic and peaceful campaign, with citizens, IT employees and local stakeholders seeking accountability and concrete deadlines for resolving the area's long-standing infrastructure problems.
