Pune, 24th August 2026: The state government has begun a series of measures to address long-pending infrastructure and civic problems in the Chakan–Shikrapur industrial belt. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Industry Minister Uday Samant and senior officials reviewed the situation during a visit to Chakan and discussions with representatives of local industries.
Shinde said the government was committed to resolving the problems faced by industries and would ensure that the necessary work was completed within defined timelines. He also assured industrialists that the government would take steps to improve roads, transport, electricity, water supply, waste management and other basic facilities.
A special grievance cell has been established in the Pune District Collector's office under the chairmanship of the District Collector. Meetings with industrial representatives will be held on the first and fourth Wednesdays of every month to review problems and monitor their resolution.
Officials from MIDC and other departments will also remain available one day every week to address urgent concerns of industrialists. Industries have also been advised to use the Maitri application to register and track their grievances.
Road connectivity remains one of the biggest concerns for industries in the region. The government has directed authorities to speed up repairs and improvement works on the 54-km Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur route, the Nashik Phata–Rajgurunagar road and internal roads in MIDC and PMRDA areas.
Shinde said filling potholes would provide only short-term relief and that long-term road improvement work would be undertaken to address the problem permanently.
He said, “The pothole repairs are only a short-term measure. Long-term work on these roads will also begin soon. The situation in Chakan will change completely.”
While developing roads in the industrial area, authorities have also been asked to prepare a common plan covering footpaths, utility networks and cycle tracks so that road construction is coordinated across different agencies.
To improve connectivity to the industrial belt and reduce travel time, MahaMetro has been directed to prepare development plans for proposed corridors connecting Nigdi–Chakan, Chakan–Rajgurunagar and Talegaon–Shikrapur.
The government has also pushed for better connectivity through the Nashik Phata–Rajgurunagar corridor and improvements to the Pune–Nashik highway and proposed bypass routes.
The government will explore developing residential townships through clusters for workers employed in the Chakan industrial area. The aim is to reduce daily travel time and ease pressure on the region's roads.
Officials also assured industrialists that issues related to electricity, water supply, garbage disposal and sewage management would be addressed. A separate agency is expected to be appointed to help manage waste and sewage-related issues.
Shinde also directed electricity officials to ensure reliable and timely power supply to industries and said the concerns raised by the Chakan municipal authorities would be addressed.
Following the discussions and proposed measures, representatives of the industrial sector expressed satisfaction with the government's response.
Shinde said the government and industrialists should work together and assured them that industries would not face difficulties because of infrastructure shortcomings.
“Industrialists and the government are on the same side. We have discussed the problems with them and will implement the necessary measures. No industrialist should have to leave Chakan because of these issues,” Shinde said.
The review was attended by Industry Minister Uday Samant, Legislative Council member Neelam Gorhe, MLAs Sharad Sonawane and Babaji Kale, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey and officials from MIDC, MSRDC, PMRDA and MahaMetro, along with representatives of industrial associations and the traffic-free Chakan action committee.
