Pune, 21 April 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is preparing to take action against illegal ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants operating in Dhayari and Vadgaon Khurd, citing serious violations of environmental norms and rising pollution levels.

Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram confirmed that a plan is being finalised to initiate action against these units.

Several unauthorised RMC plants in the city have been accused of flouting regulations, leading to heavy dust pollution within a one to two kilometre radius. Residents in affected areas have reported difficulty in walking or driving due to airborne dust, while homes are coated with thick layers of particulate matter.

Health concerns have also escalated, especially among children, the elderly, and those with existing illnesses, with complaints of persistent cough, cold, and eye irritation.

In the past two weeks, the civic body has already carried out action against similar plants in areas like Lohgaon, Wagholi, and Undri. However, locals allege that illegal plants in Dhayari and Vadgaon Khurd have so far escaped action due to political protection.

There are also claims that officials tipped off plant operators in advance, leading to failed enforcement attempts earlier. Frustrated residents are now preparing to launch protests if immediate action is not taken.

The Pune municipal commissioner stated that strict action will be taken against all RMC plants violating norms, including those in Vadgaon and Dhayari, and that preparations for the same are currently underway.

Meanwhile, discussions within civic circles about alleged financial settlements have added to the controversy. Rumours suggested that officials were paid large sums to avoid action against certain RMC plants in Lohgaon and Wagholi.

Following these claims, authorities carried out direct demolition drives in those areas, reportedly to counter such allegations and send a strong message. Officials have also acknowledged that such rumours were circulating.
