Punekars, the wait might finally be over soon as Pune Metro Line 3, connecting Hinjewadi IT Park to Shivajinagar, has successfully completed its final round of trials. Officials say the corridor is now in its last phase and is likely to open for public use by the end of May 2026, marking a major boost to the city’s transport network.
Officials stated that essential systems, including signalling and safety inspections, have now been finalized. These were among the last prerequisites before services could commence. The project is currently about 90% finished. In the initial phase, 12 stations are expected to open, enhancing links between the city’s IT hub and its central districts.
The corridor was initially expected to be ready by December, with operations slated to begin in March. However, unfinished stations and technical hurdles forced a delay. With these issues now addressed, the project has entered its final phase ahead of launch.
After months of delays, the Pune Metro Line 3 project is finally back on track. Earlier setbacks were largely due to pending technical work, including incomplete signalling systems and delayed safety clearances. Progress picked up pace only after the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner issued strict directives, pushing officials to complete all remaining work within a revised timeline.
Once operational, Metro Line 3 will cut travel time between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, offering a faster, more reliable commute and easing traffic on busy roads. Developed under a public-private partnership, the project is expected to boost efficiency and deliver long-term benefits to Pune’s transport system.
