Pune, 10 April 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation has made it clear that it will not implement any water cuts, despite a 15% reduction advisory issued by the irrigation department.
Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale assured that residents will continue to receive uninterrupted water supply even during peak summer.
The city’s water supply depends on the Khadakwasla dam chain project, which currently holds about 45% water stock. Pune requires at least 1.5 TMC of water every month, making it crucial for the existing reserves to last until July 31. Considering this, the irrigation department had advised a reduction in water usage.
However, Bhimale rejected the proposal and reiterated the civic body’s firm stance. “Even if the irrigation department sends directives, we will not cut water supply. Not a single drop for Pune residents will be reduced. The current water storage is sufficient, and there is no need for any cuts,” he said.
A key meeting chaired by State Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil is scheduled to review the situation, and its outcome is expected to influence future decisions.
Meanwhile, the administration continues to focus on water conservation measures. Efforts are being made to reduce leakages, improve distribution, and take action against unauthorized connections, while also regularizing them where necessary.
