Pune, 15 December 2025: To improve law and order in the rapidly expanding city, the Maharashtra government has approved a major restructuring of the Pune Police Commissionerate.
This includes the creation of two new police circles and five new police stations to address rising population pressure and increasing crime-related challenges.
The proposal for restructuring existing police circles, along with the required manpower and financial approvals, was presented to the state government earlier. It received clearance from the high-level committee chaired by the Chief Secretary on October 13, following which the government formally approved the plan.
With this decision, the current five police circles in Pune will be reorganised, and two additional circles will be created. The new circle structure will be finalised based on the formation of the new police stations, ensuring better administrative control and more efficient policing across the city.
Alongside this, the government has approved the establishment of five new police stations to manage Pune’s growing geographical spread and increasing workload. The new police stations will be Narhe, Laxminagar, Manjari, Lohgaon, and Yeolewadi.
These stations will be created by dividing the jurisdictions of existing police stations such as Sinhagad Road, Yerwada, Hadapsar, Airport, Kondhwa, and Bharati Vidyapeeth.
Each new police station will have 166 sanctioned posts, taking the total number of newly created posts to 830. Officials expect this expansion to strengthen the police force, speed up crime investigations, improve emergency response, and reduce the workload on existing staff.
The move is seen as a crucial step towards maintaining law and order more effectively in Pune as the city continues to grow.
