Pune, 13th May 2026: A shocking incident has come to light from Regional Mental Hospital in Yerawada, where a young patient undergoing psychiatric treatment allegedly died by suicide on the hospital premises. The deceased has been identified as Sunny Sonawane (29), a resident of Baramati.

According to information shared by officials, Sunny had reportedly fallen into deep depression after applying a chemical to enhance moustache growth, which allegedly resulted in his moustache falling off.

Family members stated that the incident severely affected his mental health, following which he was being treated for hyper psychosis.

He was admitted to the Pune Mental Hospital two days ago for further treatment and observation. On the evening of the incident, hospital staff went to serve tea and snacks around 5 pm when they found him hanging from a window using his payjama string.

The hospital administration immediately informed the police. Officers reached the spot, conducted a panchnama, and sent the body to Sassoon General Hospital for postmortem examination.

After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family members. The incident has created a sense of shock and grief in the area. Authorities have begun further investigation into the case. Hospital superintendent Dr. Shrinivas Kolod confirmed the incident.
