Ever regretted a comment you left on someone’s Instagram post? Wanted to go back and fix a typo or rephrase it entirely? Well, now you can. Instagram has rolled out a new feature that lets users edit their comments after posting. The update is aimed at reducing typing errors and improving the overall commenting experience on the platform. With this change, users no longer need to delete and repost comments to correct mistakes.
Users can now edit their comments within a 15-minute window after posting. During this period, a comment can be edited multiple times without any restriction. The editing option, however, comes with certain limits. It applies only to text, meaning that if a comment includes both text and media, only the written portion can be modified. This helps preserve the original context of any visual content shared in the comment.
To maintain transparency, Instagram has also added a visibility feature. When a comment is edited, other users will be able to see that it has been modified. However, the platform will not show the edit history, so previous versions of the comment will not be accessible.
This approach is aimed at striking a balance, giving users flexibility to correct or refine their comments while keeping conversations clear and transparent for others.
The feature also brings Instagram closer to other platforms that already offer comment or post editing. It addresses a common user need, especially when it comes to fixing typing errors or rephrasing comments after posting.
For both creators and regular users, this can improve the quality of conversations, particularly in fast-moving comment threads where quick corrections are often needed. It also reduces the need to delete and repost comments, helping maintain continuity in discussions.
The update is currently being rolled out globally. Users may need to update their app to access the feature.
