Paying a surprise visit, the Higher and Technical education minister Chandrakant Patil took a review of State government’s decision of waiving off the fees for girl students for higher education. He visited Garware College in the city.
He said that he will pay visit to 100 such college. To help improve the number of girls in the higher education, State government had decided to waive off the fees for professional and medical courses for girls in the state.
The State government has identified 842 such courses and have made budget provision of Rstwo thousand crore. To implement this decision the state had given directions to the colleges and also had created flying squads to note down the complaints of the girls if any.
Patil took the step of surprise visit to check how many girl students have really benefitted through it? He also spoke with the students to understand whether they are facing any problems regarding the scheme.
Patil said, “many girls have to leave their education as they could not afford it. But state took the decision to fund their education to improve their participation in the higher education.
He appealed the girl students to submit the required documents to the nodal officer for availing the waving of the fee scheme. He also directed the colleges to form a joint committee to address the issues faced by the girl students.
He said that he will be giving surprise visits to 100 colleges in the state regarding this scheme. He has already visited Thodmal Sahani college in Bandra, Mumbai and second was Garware in Pune.
Higher education director Shailendra Devalankar, joint director Prakash Bacchav too were present.
