Early this year, it was announced that veteran actor Jackie Shroff will be making an appearance in the Gujarati adaptation of Rajesh Mapuskar’s Marathi comedy-drama Ventilator, which had bagged three National Awards. Helmed by debutant director Umang Vyas, the adaptation is written by acclaimed scriptwriter Niren Bhatt, who has previously written the National Award-winning thriller-drama Wrong Side Raju, Umesh Shukla’s All Is Well and the Salman Khan-produced Loveratri.
It’s now being confirmed that Jackie’s long-time co-star Juhi Chalwa is set to do a cameo in the film too. The duo have worked together in more than half a dozen films including Aaina, Gang, One 2 Ka 4 and the last being Nagesh Kukunoor’s 2003 crime film 3 Deewarein. They have now reunited on the big screen after 15 years.
“I have done films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Punjabi and wanted to work in a Marathi and Gujarati film too, so when Jaggu dada told me that the makers were considering me for this part, I was super excited to be a part of it. I am happy that I can now say that I have also done one Gujarati film,” informed Juhi,
Her lines in the film are a mix of Hindi and Gujarati. “My best friend, when I was four, was a Gujarati, and I am even married to one (Jay Mehta), so I am familiar with the language though I don’t speak much of it as I feel shy,” laughed Juhi, who is all praise for the original film. “It’s a delightful movie, sometimes touching, sometimes serious but mostly funny. I am really excited to be a part of it,” she said, adding that she was super excited to work with Jackie again.
The film also features Gujarati actor Pratik Gandhi in a pivotal role. Rajesh Mapuskar will be making a special appearance in this film.
