Sourabh Raaj Jain created a niche for himself in the mythology genre. But the actor is experimenting with different genres too. After participating in dance reality show — Nach Baliye 9, Sourabh will soon enter Patiala Babes on Sony Entertainment Television. The show recently took a five-year-leap and now the story now revolves around Minni (Ashnoor Kaur) and the child Arya (Saisha Bajaj).
The actor plays the character of Neil, who is a very good chef. “He is also someone with a back story to his life, which will slowly be revealed through the course of the show. And due to this particular story, he is constantly changing jobs, and is also in a bit of a financial crunch. But none of his troubles can get in the way of his love and passion for cooking, as that is something which is very close to his heart,” Sourabh says, adding, “Neil is a very good person at heart, but does not wear his emotions on his sleeve easily. He will also be seen sharing a good bond with Arya in the show.”
Ask him what connected him to the show and he says, “There are different factors like the show being quite nice with a sweet concept. My mother actually watches it and is quite fond of it, as the characters and story are quite nice and interesting. The entire feel of the show is quite real, which makes it different from a lot of other shows on television today. In spite of the entire concept being subtle, the characters are always shining at their best, primarily because of the way it is written. The show has also put out a beautiful message through the course of its duration, about empowering women, and specially a daughter empowering her own mother, which has honestly been tackled beautifully.”
Before participating in Nach Baliye 9, Sourabh has worked in different mythological and historical shows and the actor says Patiala Babes is definitely a refreshing change for him. “I feel lucky that when I was looking for a change, I got this opportunity,” adds the actor who has also starred in Mahakali, Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, Chandragupt Maurya.
He says that it was after wrapping Nach Baliye that he got an offer for Patiala Babes. “Nach Baliye definitely did help change the perception people had about me because they could see the real me. That could be a factor for me getting offered this role in a different space after a long time,” says the actor, adding that he believes that it is very important for an actor to take up different roles in different genres, otherwise they tend to get stuck in the same monotonous cycle of roles. “Then there is no satisfaction. As an actor, you tend to get under the skin of various characters, and that is something which I always look forward to, something which is also very important to me. I am always looking for something different to do than what I did in my previous show,” he says before signing off.
