After Life OK’s Prem Ya Paheli Chandrakanta, Ekta Kapoor is launching a finite series — Chandrakanta on Colors TV. The series starring Urvashi Dholakia, Madhurima Tuli and Vishal Aditya Singh, will replace Naagin 2 and will go on air from June 24.
Urvashi, who is back to television after a small break, will play the role of Iravati, whom she calls ‘pure evil’. “Come on, negative characters are my USP, so Iravati has to be negative,” she laughs, adding, “Playing negative comes naturally to me. Iravati is a very powerful woman and knows magic. She is a greedy queen, who can go to any extent to reach a powerful position.”
Though Urvashi has wowed her fans with her negative acts, in real life, the actress has a great sense of humour. Does it become difficult to play characters so contradictory to her real personality? “No. You got to give me some credit for being around for so many years. I have made a mark with such roles and people have loved it,” she says.
The actress says that she always wanted to play a character who knows magic. “Personally, I always wanted a magic wand and magical powers. It’s been my childhood dream. As a child, I used to read fairy tales and watch Walt Disney films. I wanted to play those magical characters but was waiting for the right fantasy show. My wish has come true through this character.”
Urvashi became a household name with her role in Kasautii Zindagi Kay and was also the winner of reality show Bigg Boss 6.
The actress says that playing the character of Iravati was physically challenging but she has no complaints. “From the first day, I had a major drama scene with a harness and other stuff. Because it’s a costume drama, we were also wearing heavy outfits and shooting in them was difficult. But it’s fun shooting for the series because there’s so much magic on the show and I also got to wear the crown (laughs),” she says.
Urvashi has been doing daily soaps for quite sometime. She was last seen in a cameo in Sab TV’s Badi Door Se Aaye Hai. So why did she stay away from TV? “I have a life beyond the TV industry. I am a mother, and a daughter too. I am balancing career and personal life. Sometimes, there are certain things that take priority over others,” she says, adding, “I am a mother so I am bound to multi-task. It’s not easy multi-tasking but I have to do it,” she says.
