Masoom Sharma's response

Meanwhile, Masoom Sharma has addressed the controversy. The singer explained that his family has been subjected to harassment by individuals who identify themselves as criminals. He said that the ongoing pressure and threats took a toll on his mental health, which ultimately resulted in his outburst on stage.

The situation is that certain individuals who describe themselves as criminals have repeatedly harassed me and are now targeting my family as well. My cousin called and threatened that they would kill me," he said. "When your mind becomes confused like a puzzle, the frustration grows so intense that, under stress, I spoke aggressively. I have apologised for what I believe I did wrong, and I have also replied to the notice issued by the Women's Commission," he added.

The complainant, Pranchal Nauni, claimed that Sharma’s statements made from the stage severely offended the sentiments of both the students and the members of the public present at the event. The police have filed the case under FIR No. 63/2026, citing several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 296 (obscene acts and songs), Section 352 (intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace), Section 79 (words, gestures, or acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty), and Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation).

The Dehradun Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered and stated that statutory legal action will proceed after a thorough investigation in accordance with the law. Neither Masoom Sharma nor his representatives have released any statement so far.

Masoom Sharma is a prominent Haryanvi singer and music composer recognized for fusing traditional folk elements with contemporary desi pop. He gained widespread popularity with hit tracks such as 2 Numbari and Madam Ji.
