Miss World 2026 will crown its winner today, September 5, in Nha Trang, Vietnam, with Indian viewers able to catch the finale live on JioHotstar at 5:30 pm IST. Ahead of the big night, India's representative Nikita Porwal has drawn attention with a gown inspired by one of royalty's most recognisable pieces of jewellery — Princess Diana's sapphire engagement ring.

The 75th anniversary edition of the pageant has been running across Vietnam since August 9, bringing contestants together for cultural showcases and the organisation's long-running Beauty With a Purpose initiative. Porwal's Diana-inspired look, created by designer Saisha Shinde, is part of her official wardrobe for the pageant rather than her grand finale outfit, which has been designed separately by Bhawna Rao. The gown draws from Shinde's Couture Fall 2026 collection, which took the ring itself as its creative inspiration.

Diana's engagement ring became instantly famous after her 1981 engagement to Prince Charles, featuring a large oval sapphire surrounded by diamonds and set in white gold, designed by royal jeweller Garrard. Unlike many royal rings custom-made for their wearer, Diana's design had actually been available through Garrard's catalogue, adding to its distinct appeal. After her death, the ring passed within the royal family and is now worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Beyond the fashion moment, Porwal, who hails from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, has built her pageant campaign around her Beauty With a Purpose project, MAATI, working with tribal women and children on education, healthcare and access to clean water. This year's edition has placed significant emphasis on such community-driven projects as part of the contestants' overall presentations.

The finale will be co-hosted by reigning Mr World Danny Mejía alongside Stephanie del Valle, who was crowned Miss World in 2016, as Porwal's royal-inspired fashion choices continue to trend online in the hours before the crowning.
