Vicky Kaushal on hardest part of fatherhood

In a conversation with Nod magazine, Vicky discussed the most difficult part of being a father. He shared that he took six weeks of leave after Vihaan was born and clearly remembered the day he went back to work. He described the moment he realised he would be separated from his son for four days while shooting in Wai, almost 230 km away from their home in Mumbai.

My heart dropped. It was difficult. I experience so many new emotions almost every day, because parenthood is still unfamiliar to me. I now understand when people say, ‘yaar, bacha kitna jaldi bada ho raha hai’ (the child is growing up so quickly). Earlier, I would wonder, ‘What are you talking about? Your child is only a year old.’ Now I understand it,” Vicky said.

How has becoming a father transformed him? “It strikes me at the most unexpected times that instilling the right values is now my responsibility towards my son. He will learn by watching how his parents think, speak, and behave. I’ve therefore understood that whatever you want to see reflected in him must first be present in your own actions, rather than just in your words,” the actor added.

Vicky, Katrina embrace fatherhood

Vicky and Katrina Kaif welcomed their baby boy in November last year, sharing the happy news with an adorable post that said, “Our bundle of joy has arrived. With immense love and gratitude, we welcome our baby boy.” On January 7, the couple announced their son’s name as Vihaan Kaushal.

Vicky and Katrina were married in a private ceremony at Six Senses Fort Barwara in Rajasthan on December 9, 2021. They kept their relationship under wraps until they formally confirmed it by getting married.

Professionally, Vicky headlined one of India’s top-grossing films of 2025, Chhaava. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the grand historical drama earned ₹807 crore worldwide at the box office. Vicky’s next project is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, which also features Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Katrina’s most recent appearance was in the film Merry Christmas.
