After a two-year battle with cancer, Irrfan Khan passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday. The actor was admitted in Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital and was suffering from a colon infection. Condolences poured in from the industry that mourned the death of one of India's finest talents.
What makes the occasion worse is the fact that many of his closed ones wouldn't be able to bid him a final goodbye due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.
The shocking news of the legendary actor's demise was first shared by his close friend and colleague director Shoojit Sircar on Twitter. Sircar had directed Irrfan in the 2015 super-hit Piku. One of the most versatile actors in the Hindi cinema was been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in 2018.
Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi, Bhumi Pednekar, Shekhar Kapur, Johny Lever, Parineeti Chopra and many others mourned the actor's death on social media.
Last week, Irrfan's mother Saeeda Begum breathed her last. She died in Jaipur on Saturday. However, due to the ongoing lockdown, the actor could not attend his mother's last rites and paid his last respect through video conferencing. Irrfan was last seen in Angrezi Medium, which released a week before the lockdown was forced in India in March.
Irrfan Khan was buried at the Versova Kabrasta in Mumbai on Wednesday. His sons Babil and Ayan performed his last rites, with members from his family and friends in attendance.
Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away.
