Pune, 25 August 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has approved an allocation of ₹37 crore for road development on the route of the upcoming Pune Grand Challenge Tour, an international-level cycling competition. The funds include ₹35 crore from the District Planning Committee and ₹2 crore from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
The cycling event is being promoted as a major step to place Pune district on the global tourism map. To ensure smooth execution, Pawar directed the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), PMRDA, Public Works Department (PWD), and the Zilla Parishad to work together.
Pawar instructed that all roadworks along the competition route be finished by November 30. He said the concerned agencies must complete their stretches on time, with PMC and PCMC handling their areas and PMRDA and PWD managing the remaining roads. Tenders will be issued immediately, and the usual waiting period after bidding will be cut from 15 to 7 days to avoid delays.
The state government has also committed to providing funds for police arrangements and security during the competition. Review meetings will be held every fortnight to track progress. A cultural procession is also planned as part of the celebrations around the event.
