Pune: India is at the forefront of the global AI revolution, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence, said Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, at Mumbai Tech Week 2025. Addressing industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators, he emphasized that India’s AI journey is deeply intertwined with its global trade policies, talent-driven ecosystem, and commitment to responsible AI adoption.

Goyal highlighted India’s strategic approach to AI integration, stating that the nation is now the fourth-largest AI adopter in the world. AI is already a key component of India's free trade agreements, regulatory policies, and economic strategies, reflecting its growing influence in the global digital economy. He reaffirmed that AI is a national priority, with the Indian government actively investing in AI-driven initiatives, global collaborations, and workforce development programs.

The minister stressed the need for comprehensive discussions on AI regulations, especially regarding data privacy and ethical AI implementation. India is currently collaborating with several developed nations to establish robust AI governance policies.

India’s contribution to AI is not just in numbers but also in diversity and inclusivity, Goyal noted. He further added that global industries recognize India's tech sector for its innovation, efficiency, and rapid advancements.
