Pune: The Crime Branch Unit V has arrested one of the suspects involved in a robbery at the Arihant Jewelry store on BT Kawade Road, where two men threatened the shopkeeper with a pistol and stole gold ornaments weighing 35 grams. The incident, which occurred 13 days ago, has raised concerns over security in the area.
The robbery took place at Arihant Jewelers in Mundhwa. Shopkeeper Walchand Achaldas Oswal was working on his daily accounts when two men entered the shop. They sprayed an unknown substance on his face and threatened him with a pistol. The robbers then stole gold ornaments worth ₹2.45 lakh and fled the scene.
The police had released sketches of the suspects to aid in their identification. Officers from Crime Branch Unit 5, led by Inspector Yuvraj Hande, launched a parallel investigation to track down the culprits.
On December 21, the police received a tip-off about one of the suspects. Through technical analysis, they identified Manoj alias Manya Tukaram Suryavanshi, a 23-year-old resident of Dhayari Phata, as one of the robbers. Suryavanshi was apprehended at his residence and confessed to committing the crime with two accomplices.
The suspects had changed their clothing after the robbery to evade detection. Suryavanshi has been handed over to the Mundhwa Police for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining two accomplices.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingale, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajendra Mulik. A team of dedicated officers, including Police Inspector Yuvraj Hande and Assistant Police Inspector Vijaykumar Shinde, played a crucial role in solving the case.
