Biggest Indigenous Artillery Order: Bharat Forge Secures 60% of MoD’s ₹6900 Crore Contract

The ATAGS, a state-of-the-art 155mm/52 calibre artillery system, is designed to provide enhanced firepower, extended range, and superior mobility to the Indian Army.

Pune: In a significant boost to India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing, Bharat Forge Limited has signed the largest-ever domestic contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the supply of 184 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS).

The contract, valued at ₹6,900 crore, represents a major step in strengthening the country’s artillery capabilities, with Bharat Forge accounting for 60% of the procurement deal.

ATAGS: A Breakthrough in Indigenous Artillery Systems

The ATAGS, a state-of-the-art 155mm/52 calibre artillery system, has been jointly developed by Bharat Forge and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It is designed to provide enhanced firepower, extended range, and superior mobility to the Indian Army, reinforcing its capabilities in modern warfare.

Commenting on the landmark agreement, Baba Kalyani, Chairman & Managing Director of Bharat Forge Limited, expressed his pride in the achievement.

“This is a proud moment for Bharat Forge and a testament to Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence. We deeply appreciate the support of the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Army, DRDO, ARDE, and our team at Bharat Forge for their dedication and collaboration in making this project a reality,” he stated.

The MoD’s contract for ATAGS marks a major push for India’s domestic defence industry and aligns with the government’s efforts to reduce dependence on foreign arms imports. The system’s advanced technology and indigenous development reinforce India’s position as a key player in global defence manufacturing.
