Pune: In a significant political development, five former corporators from the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The leaders, however, maintained that their loyalty lies with Uddhav Thackeray and insisted that the "real Shiv Sena" remains under his leadership.
The five corporators—Vishal Dhanwade, Balasaheb Oswal, Sangeeta Thosar, Pallavi Jawale, and Prachi Alhat—officially joined the BJP on Tuesday (January 7). Following their induction, they addressed a press conference at the BJP office, outlining their stance on various political matters.
When asked about their position on the Shiv Sena leadership, Vishal Dhanwade stated, “The real Shiv Sena belongs to Uddhav Thackeray. We have been consistent in our belief, and this matter is currently sub judice. Once the court delivers its verdict, clarity will prevail. Until then, our earlier stance remains unchanged.”
No Criticism of Shiv Sena (UBT)
Dhanwade further clarified, “For the past 25 years, we worked sincerely to strengthen the Shiv Sena. We do not wish to send any wrong message or criticize the party where we devoted years of effort.”
Political Implications
The defections come at a time when the BJP is witnessing an influx of leaders from various parties ahead of the local body elections. The former corporators’ statements highlight the complexity of political allegiances within Maharashtra’s dynamic political landscape.
