Pune 12th June 2025: In a shocking incident on Tuesday at Kharadi Bypass Chowk along the Pune-Nagar Highway, a 22-year-old man allegedly drove nearly one kilometre with another driver clinging to the bonnet of his car, following a minor road accident.

The 40-year-old cab driver Navnath Kasar, was eventually rescued by a traffic police constable who intervened and stopped the speeding car after noticing the dangerous situation. The accused, a resident of Pimpri Sandas near Shikrapur, has been detained and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and endangering human life.

According to the police report, the incident began when Kasar’s cab, which had just dropped off a passenger, was hit from behind by another vehicle while approaching Kharadi Bypass Chowk. When Kasar stepped out to confront the other driver, the accused reportedly accelerated his vehicle towards him. In a desperate attempt to avoid being run over, Kasar jumped onto the car’s bonnet.

Despite Kasar holding on to the bonnet and windshield wipers, the driver continued driving for nearly a kilometre. The situation was brought under control by Constable Sachin Chavan, who was managing traffic at a nearby junction and acted swiftly to stop the vehicle and rescue Kasar. The constable later lodged a complaint at the Airport Police Station.

Senior Police Inspector Ajay Sankeshwari confirmed that the car involved in the incident has been seized. Fortunately, there were no passengers in either vehicle at the time of the incident. Police are now reviewing CCTV footage and examining whether the accused was under the influence of any substances or had other motives. No prior criminal record has been found against him and further investigation is underway.
