Pune: A heated altercation between two individuals over sitting space outside the Shani temple in front of Shaniwar Wada escalated into a violent attack, leaving one person severely injured and unconscious. The incident took place on Wednesday (October 2) morning around 11 a.m.

The Faraskhana police have arrested Digambar Siddh Khandekar, a 61-year-old resident of Kasba Peth, originally from Tisangi in Solapur, in connection with the attack.

The victim, who is estimated to be between 50 and 55 years old, is still unconscious and receiving critical care at Sassoon Hospital.

According to police reports, the Shani temple, located near the historical Shaniwar Wada, is a regular spot where several people, including beggars, gather. The dispute began when Khandekar and the unidentified victim clashed over sitting space outside the temple.

The argument quickly escalated, with Khandekar reportedly threatening the victim, saying, "I won't spare you today, I'll finish you off."

In a fit of rage, Khandekar grabbed a stone that was placed outside the temple for oil offerings and struck the victim on the head and face.

The blow was so severe that the victim immediately lost consciousness. Passersby alerted the police, who swiftly responded and rushed the injured man to Sassoon Hospital for treatment.

As of now, the victim's identity remains unknown, and police are working to establish his details. The authorities have arrested Khandekar on charges of attempted murder and other related offenses. Assistant Police Inspector Sheikh from Faraskhana police station is leading the investigation.
