Pune: The Pune division of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) department is preparing to introduce 134 new electric buses to its fleet in the next two months. This move is expected to provide significant relief to commuters who have been facing reduced bus services due to the declining number of traditional diesel-powered red buses ("Lalpari").
Shift Toward Green Transportation
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation is prioritizing the acquisition of electric buses to reduce the environmental impact of its diesel fleet. This aligns with its broader goal of making public transport more sustainable and eco-friendly.
Air-conditioned electric buses have proven popular with commuters due to their comfort and efficiency. The daily ridership of the ST has seen an increase, supported by various passenger concessions. The addition of these 134 buses will enhance the transport infrastructure and ensure smoother, more reliable services.
Routes to Expand Coverage
Currently, electric buses are operational on routes connecting Pune to Solapur, Kolhapur, Nashik, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The new fleet will bolster these services and facilitate the introduction of electric buses on additional routes, expanding the reach of sustainable travel options across the region.
Relief for Commuters
The arrival of these buses will ensure timely, comfortable, and air-conditioned travel for passengers, addressing the growing demand for better public transport. According to Pramod Nehul, Divisional Controller of the Pune Division, the initiative reflects the positive response from passengers to electric buses and their increasing preference for environmentally friendly and comfortable travel solutions.
