Pune: A tragic road accident occurred on the Pune-Solapur road in the Shewalwadi area on Saturday (January 18) evening, where a speeding bus hit an elderly couple crossing the road.
The accident claimed the life of 63-year-old Jayant Bhamre, while his wife, Vaishali, sustained critical injuries. The Hadapsar Police have registered a case against the bus driver responsible for the incident.
The Bhamre couple, residents of Greenwoods in Manjari, was on their way home at around 6:45 PM when they attempted to cross the road near the Shewalwadi vegetable market.
According to the complaint filed by their daughter, Priyanka (28), a speeding bus struck the couple, leaving both seriously injured. The accused driver has been identified as Sanjay Ujjanrao Dinde (46), a resident of Santkrupa Society, Chikhali.
Police officers rushed to the accident site as soon as they were alerted. Both victims were immediately transported to a nearby private hospital. However, Jayant Bhamre succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention. His wife, Vaishali, is undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition.
Police Sub-Inspector Ashok Gandhale is currently leading the investigation into the case. A case has been registered against the bus driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
