Pune: The Pune Nagari Sahakari Banks Association has demanded that employees of urban cooperative banks should not be given election work.

In this regard, the president of the association, Adv. Subhash Mohite, district collector A memorandum has been submitted to Suhas Dinde. It has requested that the notices issued to the employees of urban cooperative banks regarding election work should be withdrawn.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has written to election officials in all states on December 30. This is mentioned in the statement.

According to Section 159 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, employees of the same institutions that receive government assistance are expected to be appointed for election work.

It has also cited the bombay high court's decision in a petition. Election officials should ensure that it is not violated under any circumstances.

"Since banks come under essential services, they cannot be given election duty as per the provisions of the Act," the statement said.
