Pune, 21 July 2025: A senior citizen from Kharadi has been defrauded of ₹14 lakh by two individuals who promised a job in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for his daughter-in-law. The accused allegedly posed as a civic officer and convinced the victim to pay the amount over time. The fraud came to light after months of false assurances and delays.

The complainant, a 65-year-old man, was introduced to the accused, Subhash Mahajan (65, resident of Fursungi) and Abhijit Mahajan (31, resident of Miraj, Sangli), through a mutual acquaintance in 2023. Subhash reportedly claimed that Abhijit was an officer in the PCMC and could arrange a clerical job for the victim's daughter-in-law.

Believing the offer to be genuine, the senior citizen paid ₹14 lakh to the duo in phases. However, despite repeated follow-ups and assurances, the promised job never materialized. The victim patiently waited for months, hoping the appointment would come through.

When he began questioning the accused, they allegedly gave vague and evasive replies, delaying the matter further. Eventually, realizing that he had been duped, the senior citizen approached the Airport Police Station and filed a formal complaint.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case of cheating against both Subhash and Abhijit Mahajan. Investigations into the matter are currently underway.
