Pune: Residents of Gokhalenagar and Janwadi are facing severe health risks due to a supply of muddy and foul-smelling water from their taps. For the past eight to ten days, homes in the areas around Ota Ghar, and Ekta Society, near Janwadi Masjid, have been receiving contaminated water. A lot of students from the North-Eastern states of India, and studying in various colleges of Pune, reside in this area.

Residents are perplexed about how to use this foul-smelling water for drinking. According to local resident Shahrukh Shaikh, "The water pipelines are very old and are coming through the drainage lines. Where the pipelines are damaged, drainage water seeps into the water pipes, and this contaminated water is what is coming out of our taps. The water smells bad, and we have to buy drinking water."

Efforts to contact Kedar Sathe, Deputy Engineer of the Water Supply Department, Pune Municipal Corporation, for a response have been unsuccessful.

"Residents of Gokhalenagar and Janwadi, specifically in Ota Ghar and Ekta Society, have complained about receiving muddy water. We politely request the officials to address this issue as soon as possible. Negligence towards the health of residents will lead to a strong protest by Shiv Sena," warned Pravin Dongre, Head of the Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction in the area.
